  • The singles 81-85 (bonus tracks)

    - 33.99

The first ever Duran Duran box set, a 13 CD collection celebrating the very height of the band s career with their singles from 1981 to 1985. Spawned from the cutting edge alternative club scene in Birmingham in 1978, Duran Duran s remarkable pop sensibilities and New Romantic artschool glamour broke them almost instantly into the mainstream to become the biggest band of the 1980s. Stylistically influenced by Roxy Music and David Bowie, and musically by post-punk and disco, their manifesto boasted a new sound which would merge the Sex Pistols with Chic - distinctive innovative keyboard sounds, dirty and melodic rock guitar, funky disco rhythm and bass and futuristic lyrics all combined to make pop gems ( Girls On Film, Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf ) ,or searing ballads ( Save A Prayer, The Chauffeur ) which captured the imagination along with their racy, groundbreaking videos. The packaging is a glossy flip top box housing 13 CDs in cardboard sleeves, faithfully replicating the original single sleeve artwork designed by the renowned Malcolm Garrett and Pete Farrow.

  • Zoom h4 handy digital recorder

    - 299

Recording live sound has always been a chore. To make a quality recording, you need to lug out multiple microphones and stands, some sort of expensive recording deck, and then find someplace to put everything without getting in everybodys way. Multi-track recording has always been similarly difficult. Making a quality multi-track recording requires an array of fragile and expensive equipment. The Zoom H4 Portable Recording System permanently does away with these multiple hassles by putting the power of a well-stocked recording studio in the palm of your hand. The H4 features two studio-quality electret condenser microphones in an X/Y pattern for true stereo recording with amazing separation. It also includes 2 combination XLR and 1/4 input jacks with phantom power for use with any microphone of your choice. Selectable recording formats let you record .WAV files at up to 24 bit/96KHz, as well as directly to MP3 format. And the H4 is loaded with onboard studio effects such as compression, limiting and mic modeling. The H4 records on to Secure Digital (SD) media (a 128MB SD card is included). With a 2GB SD memory card, the H4 provides up to 380 minutes of recording in 16-bit mode (CD Quality), and 34 hours in MP3 stereo mode. Unlike other field recorders, the H4 also has a 4-track recording mode for easy-to-use mobile multi-track recording. Songwriters and musicians can use the combination XLR-1/4-inch high-impedance phone inputs for vocals, guitars, bass or keyboards. Also onboard are Zooms most incredible guitar and bass amplifier modeling effects. These effects accurately reproduce the sounds of some of the most famous guitar amps ever made. Guitarist Dex from our marketing team has this to add regarding the H4: I tried the H4 in a number of live music situations, including low-volume acoustic jazz, mid-volume electric jazz and some disturbingly loud punk rock. Setup was incredibly simple. I fastened the H4 to a tripod, turned it on and pushed one button... I was up and recording in less than 30 seconds. The selectable microphone sensitivity provided a clear, distortion-free signal in each situation. The stereo separation was just phenomenal. When I listened back through headphones and closed my eyes, it was almost like being in the room again. The frequency range was also impressive. One particular recording featured both an extremely high-pitched pocket trumpet and an extremely low-pitched tuba. The crisp highs of the trumpet and the deep pulsations of the tuba were both clearly audible, with plenty of presence and separation. After each performance I spent at least 20 minutes fielding enthusiastic questions about the H4 from every musician in the room. Almost every one of them agreed that they wanted one of their own. I then tried the 4 track recording function. Using only the H4 and its onboard effects, an electric guitar, an instrument cable and tapping my coffee table as a drum, I was able to create a richly layered, CD-quality multi-track

Featuring: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sonic Youth, Theoretical Girls, DNA, LIARS, Teenage Jesus & the Jerks, Gogol Bordello, flux information sciences, Lydia Lunch, Black Dice, Swans, A.R.E. Weapons, foetus and Glenn Branca.First-time filmmaker S.A. Crary shares a complex history of New York's art-punk scene. This compelling documentary weaves together a timeline for an aggressive movement allowing the players to reflect in the moment. With interviews from such punk rock icons as Teenage Jesus & the Jerks bassist Jim Sclavunos, bandmate Lydia Lunch, DNA's Arto Lindsay, Glenn Branca, Sonic Youth and others from the late '70s/early '80s art-punk explosion. Exclusive interviews with these originators and a new generation of practitioners -- from the Grammy-nominated Yeah Yeah Yeahs to Black Dice to Liars to Gogol Bordello -- reveals a consistent hunger for invention through subversion, motivations that come into cacophonous focus in the new and archival concert footage bridging the interviews. What also comes out is a depth of retrospection amongst the older generation that puts the younger generation's musings in a context that will surprise even the most plugged-in of scenesters. By documenting art-punk in the same spirit as the movement itself has played out, Crary has created a compelling reference for a movement that defies them and managed to stay true to its spirit in the process.DVD Features:Over 60 mins of exclusive interviews and performancesAdditional live clips and music videosPhoto galleriesWeblinksTrailersFormat: DVD MOVIE

  • Burning britain-history of uk punk 1980-1984

    - 18.99

What you hold in your hands could be thought of as a visual accompaniment to my recent Burning Britain: The History of UK Punk 1980-1984 book, although it admittedly doesn't pertain to be either as comprehensive or as far-reaching as that particular document. What it is though, is a neat snapshot of some of the bands from said book doing what they do/did best - blasting out anti-social punk rock in various seedy establishments around the world. It's not always perfect quality and it's not all from the early Eighties, but hey, there were very few decent video cameras around back then, and none of the bands ever imagined that their modest home movies - initially filmed just for their own enjoyment - might one day end up on a DVD in your player. And after all, this is a punk rock film, which means you get all the feedback, warts 'n' all, not to mention some occasionally shambolic camera work, but if you're not down with that, go watch MTV or whatever else it is that tries to pass itself of as punk nowadays.Meanwhile, those with an appreciation for the old school way of doing things can settle back and enjoy this collection of rare treats, many of them prised from the bands' own archives. Almost a dozen of the tracks here have never seen the light of day until now, and most of the others have yet to enjoy a proper digital release. Alongside the bonus photo gallery, which features some of the pictures we couldn't fit in the Burning Britain book, it's a spirited, evocative collection of in-your-face punk rock, spanning over two decades of gloriously mutilated guitar chords and some of the most urgent impassioned sounds you could ever hope to entice from a cheap guitar amplifier.Ranging from the ABH's ultra-rare Don't Mess with The SAS (an elusive example of an original UK82 promo clip) right up to recent live footage from scene stalwarts such as GBH and Discharge, that proves beyond any shadow of doubt how little the passage of time has done to dim their visceral ferocity, Burning Britain ain't always pretty, but it's the only place you'll ever see the likes of The Destructors, Mau Maus and Ad Nauseam strutting their stuff on DVD, and if that isn't worth the price of admission, then what is?Includes GBH - Diplomatic Immunity, Discharge - Ain't No Feeble Bastard, Peter and The Test Tube Babies - Busy Doin' Nothin', The Destructors - Electronic Church, Chaos UK - No Security, One Way System - Jerusalem, ABH - Don't Mess with The SAS, The Exploited - UK82, The Varukers - Murder, Abrasive Wheels - Burn 'em Down, Broken Bones - Annihilation No. 3, The Skeptix - Death Run, Vice Squad - Out of Reach, Ad Nauseam - The Devil Went Down to Georgia, Newtown Neurotics - Kick Out The Tories, The Business - Out in The Cold, Anti-Nowhere League - Woman, Disorder - Life, External Menace - We

  • Flipper:live target video 1980-81

    - 9.99

From the archives of SF's famous Target Video comes this monster release from the classic original early 80s line up of Flipper. Capturing extreme and scorching performances from 1980 and 1981, this DVD helps form a picture of the band that slowed down punk rock and made the kids suffer in the louder faster days of hardcore. An intense blend of noise, punk and drone music coupled with an in your face attitude and performance style made Flipper one of most out there bands of the early 80s scene. This DVD features stellar performances from Berkeley and the Kezar and is (mostly) unreleased and incredible snapshot into the other side of American Hardcore. • Big bad world

    - 13.98

There's plenty of heart on Big Bad World. Says singer/songwriter Tom Higgenson, We tried to be really ambitious and not worry about people's expectations for this record. Our vision was to do it in a classic way. To that end, the band only used gear or instruments made before 1970: vintage guitars, old Vox amps and Leslie speakers, a Ludwig drum set circa 1966. They even recorded without a click track (equivalent to walking a high-wire without a net). Because they recorded it live, you might hear imperfections. But in the case of Big Bad World, those imperfections worked perfectly. Our songs in the past had a 50's and 60's influence with classic songwriting structures and harmonies, says Tom. This time we decided, rather than punk that out and make it sound modern, we would record as though it could have been done by the Beatles or early Tom Petty. We got to a place where we sounded good live 300 nights a year, so we wanted to capture that. Of course aiming high means nothing without good songs. Fortunately, coming off a smash hit like Hey There Delilah, Higgenson felt inspired. There was no second guessing, he recalls. If I thought something was good, I went with it. The album is 10 songs, very concise and to the point. The opening title track, co-written by Tom and Chris Thompkins ( Before He Cheats ), conveys a battle-scarred confessional offset by a deceptively upbeat melody. Over the past year, I made lots of mistakes, Tom says, and I wanted to write about that rather than point fingers at people. I wanted to place the blame on myself. Next, the first single Natural Disaster, with its ballistic beat and tale of a seductive groupie, upends the band's undeserved reputation as loveably lovelorn. Serious Mistake wraps a solid rock foundation with a wild orchestration. I was in a dark place, Tom says of the song's origins. I made a stupid mistake with a girl that I immediately regretted. For a while I harbored some guilt. So I wrote the song in an effort to work through it. Bassist Mike Retondo lends a major assist on the track, playing everything from bass clarinet and melodica to trombone, even improvising some of his parts on the spot. The ballad Rainy Day serves as melancholy counterpoint to gems like That Girl and 1,2,3,4 (featuring the otherworldy sounds of Jon Brion on the Chamberlin), both of which embody Tom's idealized sense of pop simplicity. Then there's Sunlight, which just might be the new album's crown jewel. Written by guitarist Tim Lopez, the song blends a reverent melody with Abbey Road -level harmonies to proffer a message of forgiveness (Grammy nominee William Hamilton, the father of PWT's drummer De'Mar Hamilton, plays organ). Last year should have been the best year of my life, says Tim. The band was exploding. It seemed we couldn't do anything wrong. But my marriage was ending right in the middle of the success. I wrote this song to my wife. F
